Nang Yai Project R&D

The Nang Yai Project R&D is Arts on Location’s first initiative to creating a new performance. The R&D taken place between 9-18th April, 2015 is intended to be one of a series of research and development sessions leading towards the future final performance. The Nang Yai of Totsakan and Hanuman were part of this week of experimentation and exploration to reimagine how might the artform be liberated from its common use and tell a story in a new way.

The project was in two parts: Nang Yai workshops for the public and a 10 day research and development process in a rehearsal room, which was a collaboration between London based Thai and international artists. At the end of the process, the work in progress was shared in front of an invited audience at Chisenhale Dance Space.

The project is still at an early stage of development. Being aware of the complexity of the work and the subject, Arts on Location plans to continue the next stage of development in the near future.
